Network Marketing Tips: A Mastermind Event Original Series.
How to get someone’s contact info — virtually 100% of the time.

What ONE thing should every Network Marketer do when they meet someone?

Yes, get their contact info.

The simple tip in this 90-second video can help you do exactly that, virtually 100% of the time. Simply hand your prospect your phone and say (find out what to say in the video).

While in Málaga, Spain I took 90 seconds to share exactly what I do to get someone’s contact info once I meet them. It’s simple, fast and keeps all your contacts in one easy to access place. Once I have their contact info, I text them my info and then connect with them on Facebook. I also enter any notes about them directly into the contact details before I forget the details of our conversation.

Share this video with your team. The technique is direct, highly effective and everyone on your team can duplicate it.

  1. I like to meet people when I am out shopping! Grocery store, clothing stores, restaurants. I like handing them my card and asking for the email to send them information about my product.

  2. Playgrounds are great places to meet people, the queue at the supermarket, at the school gates after drop offs and before pickups, and of course the gym.

  3. I talk with everyone looks friendly and open to a conversation, especially on the supermarket, hospitals, and restaurants. Ask them how they feel that day about their jobs, it’s their job fun, etc. And then I give them my business card, and ask if they can give me their email to send more information about what I do. But now, I’ll request their info to set up in my phone. Thanks for the tips Art Jonak!

  4. Like so many on this thread, I look to meet people EVERYWHERE. But some particular favorites of mine are at my children’s sporting events and the car wash. I go to one of the chain car washes that has a nice waiting area for the patrons. It’s easy to compliment someone on her or his car and go from there. And sporting events are fabulous, whether indoor or outdoor. Watching our kids play sports, knowing that college is looming, the ways to strike up a conversation are too numerous to mention. Good luck, everybody, and thanks to you, Art!

  5. I find the absolute best place to meet people is at my kids’ events: little league games, horseback riding shows, etc. You have a captive audience with people and you already have something in common with which with speak with them and build rapport.

  6. AIRPORTS I love meeting people at airports you have a captive audience while your waiting to board or while your actually on the plane.

  7. Weddings. People are always happy there… Unless of course they know more than they should know about the participants.

  8. Excellent tips Art, and very easy to implement. My favourite lately is just to ask “Hey, it sounds like you’re up to some really cool stuff…can I connect with you on Facebook?”
    If you learn the the skills of having people TRUST and LIKE you in a short period of time, it’s a great way to grow your circle of friends and potential prospects.
    To supercharge this strategy, TAKE NOTES once you leave them of their name and any minor detail they shared. When you connect on Facebook (which can usually be done via smartphone while you’re together) send a PRIVATE MESSAGE and mention something they spoke about. It will boost your character in their eyes by 100% because they will feel SOMEONE out there actually listened and paid attention.
    Once you connect on FB, then make sure your lifestyle and what you post sends the right message of who you are and gives subtle hints as to what you do.

  9. IN THE BBN (big blue nation) kentucky BASKETBALL IS 24/7, 365. IN THE
    BBN YOU CAN TALK TO ANYONE IN ANY RELATIVE SETTING ABOUT
    THE TEAM. YOU CAN TALK ABOUT NEW RECRIUTS, HOW MANY DAYS
    UNTIL THE SEASON STARTS, WHO IS RETURNING, HOW THEY PLAYED, HOW TO GET TICKETS, YOU NAME IT.EVERYONE IS YOUR
    BROTHER OR SISTER IN THE BBN.

  10. As I live in Colombia, people still queue up for any kind of service. The lines are actually a very nice place to make contact and time pases this way much more quickly :-) Greentings from Colombia ;-)

  11. I use social media – great way to find some interesting people (but not the efective one :-)) and of course – I’m open in everyday life… there are so many possibilities, to smile to people and see, if they smile back :-) And this is first connection…

  12. I love books and so I often find myself at the bookstore. If you’ve chosen a business opportunity that aligns with your interests, then you will naturally find yourself hanging out in the related section of the bookstore. There you’re sure to find other people who share that same interest. It’s not hard to strike up a conversation with someone based on the books they’re checking out… or by recommending a book you really enjoyed.

  13. I enjoy meeting new people at networking & social events. I smile and if they smile back I say “Hi” and extend my hand. I learn about them and then I say “Let’s exchange information so we can stay connected”.

  14. One way that I meet people more othen is on social media sites. I message them and ask them to tell me more about what they do then I share with them what I do which is a talk radio show host, so meeting new people is essential for me! Another way is at social events and just about anywhere I come into contact with others.

Network Marketing Success Stories: The Widowed Mother
A Mastermind Event Original Series.

In this episode of “Network Marketing Success Stories,” Debra Raybern takes the Mastermind Event stage for the first time. She shares how she went from being a widowed mother, with a six-figure debt and used her never quit attitude along with Network Marketing to help achieve her dreams.

Share this video with others to help build their belief in Network Marketing. The stronger their belief, the faster they’ll achieve success. Share this blog post with them and share her story on your Facebook timeline here.

For nearly 20 years she taught herb classes. She initially joined her Network Marketing company simply to be able to provide their products to her clients. At the time she wasn’t interested in building the business. Then the unexpected death of her husband in 2002 left her six-figures in debt and in need of a greater income.

She simply would not quit.

Not wanting to sacrifice time with her daughter Sharon, whom she was homeschooling, she began praying for an answer. In the summer of 2005 she had her answer; build a network marketing team.

After eight years her team has over 22,000 members, with eight leader legs and generates annual sales in the 8-figures. She’s created a dream lifestyle for herself and her daughter, who is also successfully building the business! Dreams do come true!

She is truly grateful for the opportunity to work from anywhere, have the flexibility to set her own hours, have a business growing 24/7—even while she sleeps, a great team to work with and the ability to help more people than she ever could have imagined.

Debra believes with all her heart that if this kind of success in Network Marketing can happen for her, with a strong work ethic and a never quit attitude, it can happen for anyone!

  2. I enjoyed hearing her describe the “I do, we do, you do” approach to classes, as well as reminding me of Jeremiah 29:11. Debra, your story and your attitude is amazing!

  3. It’s amazing to me that MLM is all the same basic principles! When someone quotes a 6-7 figure a year/month earner, you pretty well know who originated it. I’m so thankful for these “generic” MLM conferences!!

  4. Wow, what an inspiration and what a role model for her daughter! In between laughing and crying (I couldn’t help it, her story was just so sad), Mrs. Raybern really opened my eyes to the power of duplication…why the heck am I trying to do this all myself? LOL

  5. Tomorrow 20th May is my birthday and next year I will be 65. I have no pension nor savings (I have been ill for the last 2 years) and I look after an elderly Mother. I looked everywhere for a) some method of providing a small realistic weekly income and b) some method that would help me create a pension for the very near future. I am grateful for MLM which can provide both – providing I work on it and next year, I will now be able to attend all the way from the UK and I have already made the commitment to attend. Thank you MLM and FM Perfumes for this marvelous opprotunity!

  6. I am grateful today for this very moment which reminds me of my “WHY”. Without Network Marketing and QNET it wasn’t possible. Its now a way of life and i thank lord for showing us the way.

Would you rather earn LINEAR INCOME or RESIDUAL INCOME?
Let’s find out…

Linear Income: With a job, you trade time for money. At the end of the week, your boss pays you for the work you did that week. The next week you start from zero. You have to put in the work again to get paid. Linear income is directly related to the number of hours you work. If you work 40 hours, you get paid for 40 hours of work.

Residual Income: Unlike a paycheck from a job, when you develop a “residual income” you don’t have to start from zero every week, or every month. You don’t have to start over from zero ever again. Residual income means never having to “start over.”

Why? Because when you earn a residual income, your income compounds from the work you are currently doing and the work you have already done! The work you did last week continues to pay you this week, as does the work you did two weeks ago, and three weeks ago, and four weeks ago, etc… all the way back to the week you first started earning a residual income.

You do the work right ONE TIME, you can get paid AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN for a LONG TIME!

Here’s the best part, a Network Marketing business offers you the chance at a residual income! After all, you have residual bills that you pay every month… why not have a residual income?

  5. As someone just starting the direct network marketing business, as I’m currently working and receiving linear income. The idea of receiving residual income is a must. As previously an employer decided he did not have enough to meet his payroll and therefore the linear income was not there. I will never go through that again… residual income will be a definite!

  6. I love that my residual income is based on my efforts, my performance, and I can give myself a raise at any time. Unlike a “job” where you get paid the same amount regardless.

  7. The one thing I love about residual income is:
    It give me time to look for other opportunities with residual income and in the meantime I am an example for others that it can be done if you treat it as a normal business which you start as an owner

  8. Residual income gives me freedom to spend time with my grandbabies and family without worrying about a 9 to 5 job, to give more to my church and time for community service that I would otherwise not be able to do.

  9. The one thing I love about residual income is that I am empowering my loved ones – family and friends – to live the life of their dreams, for generations!

  10. Residual income gives me the freedom to be available for my grandchildren and the privilege to live life while building new relationships from wherever I am.

  11. the one thing i love about residual income is that its a money counter for how many you have help to achieve their dreams. huge residual income=have help many people to change their life and that is the best feeling:D

  12. People will walk through brickwalls to get residual income when they understand it. :) courtesy of the MM event. So am I for the past 2,5 years. Big up for everyone in the industry. I hope we all make it ;) R.K.

  13. Residual income empowers one to own oneself, which is to the most important aspect of ones career, doing what you love, empowering others, traveling the world, total freedom. Louis.

VIDEO: Be The Motivation, Not The Distraction

Buffer this pageShare on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterGoogle+

Conversations with Network Marketing Masterminds
A Mastermind Event Original Series.

Defend Against Distractions.

While enjoying a week with our families in Puerto Rico, Mike Potillo and I decided to roll the video and tackle a rarely discussed topic: Distractions.

Most top leaders already recognize (or through painful experience are beginning to recognize) the significance of shielding their team from distractions. They’ve become defenders of their organizations knowing that if they want a long-term and stable Network Marketing business, they simply can’t afford to invite distractions into their teams.

Distractions come in many forms. We discuss several of them in the video. Also below are a few more insights on two of the outside distractions; The Contest Distraction and The “Outside Expert” Distraction.

The Contest Distraction: Avoid give away your influence trying to win a popularity contest.

Whenever you see someone post a contest about voting for the “best company,” or “best pay plan,” or “best leader,” or “best CEO,” or “best leader under 30,” or “best fill-in-the-blank”… they are simply hoping you will give away your influence by promoting the ‘popularity contest’ and encouraging your team to go vote.

Ask yourself, “Why are they putting on this contest?”

Therein lies the danger; the contest promoter will capture the email address of your team members. And now your team will receive a never-ending barrage of ‘distractions’ in their in-boxes from the contest promoter. And all you got was the chance to possibly win a popularity contest that has zero merit or credibility.

Remember that 99% of your team will never hear about the “popularity contest” unless you give away your influence and promote the contest.

• The “Outsider Expert” Distraction: Borrowing your influence to build their list.

When someone outside your company asks to speak to your team at an event, on a conference call, a webinar, a Skype call or Google hangout, one question to as ask yourself is, “Why does this person want access to my team?”

In many cases they want you to exchange years of your hard-earned influence with your team for a sprinkle of their magical “expert” fairy dust. Keep in mind, just because someone has “Expert” or “Guru” status, doesn’t mean they have character. And it doesn’t mean what they teach will actually work for your team.

An even greater danger lies in the “self-proclaimed” gurus or experts who teach what they themselves have never actually accomplished. Some may not be actively involved with a Network Marketing business. Some may have quit Network Marketing themselves but want to tell you and your team that Network Marketing is the way to go.

Think about it this way: If you had built a long-term and stable network marketing business, why would you quit on your leaders, abandon your team, turn your back on your company and leave the amazing passive income you’ve created? You probably wouldn’t.

So if you did quit network marketing to become a self-proclaimed guru or expert, you may have done so because you were not able to truly build a stable, sustainable and long-term Network Marketing business. And by default, odds are that what you teach may also not create a long-term Network Marketing business. So why would someone who hasn’t built a sustainable Network Marketing business want access to your team?

In many cases they want to borrow your influence to get access to your team.

They’ll share a few insights and then offer your team a special report, or a free webinar, the rest of the tips they didn’t get to, or some irresistible offer in exchange for the contact info of your team members. And now your team is vulnerable to receiving a never-ending barrage of ‘distractions’ in their in-boxes, on their Facebook feed, etc.

Distractions like:
webinars; some for a fee, others free with an upsell for some amazing ‘package deal;’
monthly continuation programs;
selling books and audio albums to build the “expert’s” personal brand;
promoting high-ticket (thousands of dollars) boot-camps and retreats;
offering high-priced coaching and consulting programs;
pitching joint-venture offers from their other “Guru or Expert” friends;
the join-ventures lead to your team being on many different email lists;
leads and lead-generation programs;
high-priced speaking fees for you or your company events;
invitations to plug into their social media communities;
training and methodology that may contradict your team training;

… and that’s just the beginning. In many cases they end up borrowing your influence to line their pockets with your team’s hard earned commission checks.

Keep in mind that 98% of your team will never hear about the “Guru or Expert” unless you give away your influence and promote them.  Whether you invite the distractions into your team or not is ultimately in your hands. Choose wisely.

Bottom line, don’t give away your power, your influence … your future.

If something is a distraction and can take your team off-track, don’t invite it into your team. Just say NO to the distraction.

In this episode of “Conversations with Network Marketing Masterminds,” I sit down with Mike Potillo and we tackle “distractions.” Mike helps lead an organization that did over $450 million in sales in 2013, up from $200 million in 2012 and up from $40 million in 2011. One reason for their growth is they are meticulous about not ‘inviting outside distractions’ into their organization. And if a distraction finds its way inside the organization, they’ve also mastered the art and science of ‘removing the distraction’ out of the organization.

You’ll also hear about our Fly-Boarding experience. Ready up or… ready drown?

We’ll be in Barcelona and Majorca in June and hopefully we can hook up with Bernat Andreu’s friend for some advanced FlyBoarding tips, because we sure could use them. :)

Bottom line: Don’t let your team drown in never-ending waves of outsider distraction. Be the motivation (ready up), not the distraction (ready drown) for your team.

Build it once. Build it BIG. Build it to last a lifetime of FREEDOM!

It’s a story of a restaurant owner who went from working 100 hours-a-week to achieving a lifestyle of freedom through Network Marketing. We hope you and your team enjoy his story.

Several years ago Eugene Hong attended his first Network Marketing Mastermind Event. At the time he was working hard to make his restaurant business successful while building his Network Marketing business.

Today, Eugene’s team consists of more than 45 Diamonds, generates millions of dollars in sales and growing fast. Thanks to Network Marketing he has been able to buy his parents their dream home, spend more time with his family, travel the world and live a life of freedom. He’s done so well that last year Eugene was a featured speaker at the Mastermind Event as a million-dollar club member!

I sat down with Eugene in Los Angeles and asked him questions about his journey, including “How do you get a busy restaurant owner to look at Network Marketing?”, “What caused your business to take off?”, “What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?”, “What skill helped you the most?” and many more.

Eugene believes if this kind of success in Network Marketing can happen for him, with a strong work ethic and a dream, it can happen for anyone!

VIDEO: Dollar for dollar, nothing beats word-of-mouth.

Buffer this pageShare on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterGoogle+

What if there were a way to build your business, year in and year out, regardless of fluctuations in the economy? Well, there is. It’s called word-of-mouth. Dollar for dollar, the best advertising in the world is word-of-mouth marketing.

Nielsen’s latest Global Trust in Advertising Report says word-of-mouth is the single best, most effective, long-term type of marketing in the world.

Well that’s great news! Direct Selling is based 100% on recommendations from friends, on word-of-mouth marketing.

WordOfMouthChartEC

The Nielsen report repeats findings from previous years – people don’t trust advertising. What do they trust? Recommendations from friends.

When it comes to swaying consumers, nothing beats word of mouth. That’s because, 92% of people trust recommendations from friends and family above all other forms of advertising when making a purchase decision. That number was up nearly 20% from 2007.

Those findings, however, only begin to highlight the changing advertising model. According to research by Nielsen, less than half of all people still find paid traditional media credible. Since 2009 the credibility of advertising has dropped 24% for television, 20% for magazines, and 25% for newspapers. The numbers are even worse for internet and mobile advertising.

Word-of-mouth has existed for over a thousand years. Other forms of marketing, such as TV, radio, newspapers, billboards, banner ads, email marketing, mobile text marketing, etc have had much shorter life spans, some have gone extinct, some are on their way to being extinct. Word-of-mouth on the other hand will probably exist for another thousands years.

Direct Selling is based 100% on recommendations from friends, on word-of-mouth marketing. The single best, most effective, long-term form of marketing in the world.

Did you know there are millions of people who earn regular monthly bonus checks for their word of mouth recommendations through Direct Selling? Instead of spending money in the local newspaper or TV advertising, Direct Selling companies give their advertising budget to people like you and me for spreading the word. They share all these profits with you and give you a word-of-mouth bonus check for all of your network marketing, for recommending and promoting their products.

How many people get a word of mouth bonus check from their local restaurant, movie theater or shopping mall? Whoa. They don’t, do they? They do the work, but just don’t get paid for it. See, they already do network marketing everyday, but most are not getting paid for it.

So, let your prospects know, “Dollar for dollar, nothing beats word-of-mouth.” And then say:

“There are two types of people in the world, those that get a word-of-mouth advertising bonus check in their mailbox every month and those who don’t. Which group would you like to be in?”

Want to learn how to build a substantial, long-term word-of-mouth income through Direct Selling? Add the Direct Selling Mastermind Event to your yearly calendar. You’ll be joined by thousands of fellow attendees to learn from some of the most successful leaders in the Direct Selling profession. These are men and women who have built tremendously successful, long-term Direct Sales businesses and earn ‘rock star’ word-of-mouth residual incomes.

Build it once. Build it BIG. Build it to last a lifetime of FREEDOM!

PS: Have you ever driven past dozens of restaurants to eat at the one a friend recommended?

While staying in Puerto Rico for a week, Mike Potillo and I drove our families 33 miles past probably a hundred restaurants to eat at Lechonera Los Pinos in Guavate (Goo-AH-VAH-TEH), a very small barrio in the mountains of Cayey, Puerto Rico. Can you guess why?

As you may know, Mike Potillo is one of the presenters at the Direct Selling Mastermind Event. He helps lead an organization that does $40 million a month in sales, yes about $500 million a year. He understands the power of word-of-mouth marketing. So we shot the short video above while in Guavate, explaining why we did what we did.

Hint, it had something to do with foodies extraordinaire Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern. :)

P.S.: On July 1st Mastermind Event ticket prices increase. This is the best time to get you and your team together to take advantage of the current “advanced ticket pricing” and the specially priced “group rates.”

VIDEO: How to protect your prospects and new distributors from negativity.

Buffer this pageShare on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterGoogle+

His team does over $100 million in sale per year, so what one simple technique does Network Marketing rock star Wes Linden use to protect his new distributors from negativity and keep more of them active on his team?

Find out in this LIVE video from the Direct Selling Mastermind Event. Plus Wes demonstrates how even 8-year olds can do what he teaches and how this effective technique helped him create over $40 million a year in sales from just one of his organizational legs.

He also shares how to inoculate your team from GUPTRs, how to protect your prospects from negativity, what “prospecting procrastination” looks like (and how to beat it) and the power behind “sliding door moments.”

Wes Linden is the first Mastermind Event speaker from the United Kingdom. He joined his network marketing company at age 20, after 4 years he was able to live directly from his network marketing income and by age 27 he’d developed a true rock star residual income and lifestyle which he’s been enjoying for the last 9 years… all with the same company. He has achieved the dream.

P.S. Ever wonder what new presenters at the Mastermind Event go through?

After a vetting process that lasts on average two years, they submit their presentation(s) months before the event into a extended “plan, do, review and adjust” process. Then, the day before the event, they are asked to join their fellow ‘rookie’ class for an intense and interactive coaching session. As Wes puts it…

“I joined the network marketing equivalent of the X-Factor judges, Randy Gage, Art Jonak, Hilde and Orjan Saele, amongst others, in preparation for my speaking opportunities at the Mastermind Event. I sat and observed the incredible feedback that fellow new faculty members received. I listened in awe at the fantastic tips that were shared and advice given and then from being a tad nervous, I couldn’t wait to have my chance.”

Here’s a candid photo Wes took while Eugene Hong was getting feedback on his presentation:

XFactorJudgesWes added, “Some really intuitive insights followed and I was able to put these thoughts into my presentations that were to follow over the next couple of days. It seemed the Mastermind was an event that not just the audience got great benefit from, but the speaking panel were able to learn and develop greatly too thanks to the X-Factor panel who gave up their time to help us improve.”

Take time to watch Wes Linden’s main stage presentation. He also did a 45-minute breakout session the next day.

  1. Paradigm shifting strategies and communications that will expedite results if consistently used. Study-Process-Repeat!

  2. Brilliantly communicated. I loved it, simplicity is key yet we always want to complicate matters. Thank you Wes.

  3. Loved the picture at the beginning of how his friends and family responded when he told them he joined a Network Marketing business. Great guy and great video thanks for sharing :)

  4. I liked his comment “People don’t care how much you know but need to know how much you care.”

  5. I enjoyed the opening comments about negativity. The point on keeping new people enthused by giving them third party tools. Excellent video!
