Network Marketing Tips: What Attracts Quality Prospects To Your Team?
A Mastermind Event Original Series.

The more you win, the more attractive your team becomes!

While in Spain we decided to go see one of the greatest teams in the world, FC Barcelona, play LIVE! It’s been on my “life list” for some time. Their next game was versus Granada CF, so we drove to Granada and through sheer persistence managed to get tickets to the sold out game. We were in!

A bit of history:

Introducing Goliath: FC Barcelona was founded in 1899. They are the world’s second-richest futball club in terms of revenue and the world’s third most valuable sports team. FC Barcelona is the most successful club in Spain having won 82 official titles, they were ranked first in the ‘All-Time Club World Ranking’ in 2009 and placed on top of the 2012/13 UEFA club rankings. Frankly one of the the most successful teams in world futball history. They are a giant, a Goliath.

On the flip side, there’s David. Granada Club de Fútbol (Granada CF) was founded in 1931. Their biggest highlight was reaching the final of the 1959 Copa del Generalísimo (as the Copa del Rey was known during the dictatorship), which they lost 4-1 to FC Barcelona.

Since 1931 Granada CF have NEVER beaten, or even tied, FC Barcelona.

The stadium was buzzing! Granada CF fans were out in full force. Flags waving inside and outside the stadium, tens-of-thousands singing in unison, each fan with hope in their eyes, hoping that maybe today was the day.

From the opening whistle the fans cheered on their team with everything they had. As the game went on, you could hear fans getting hoarse, losing their voices from their intense cheering.

FC Barcelona came out shooting. Shot after shot after shot on goal through the first fifteen minutes. It wasn’t looking good for the home team, but the fans kept on.

And then the impossible happened. In their first attack of the game, in the 16th minute, Granada striker Brahimi slid through the FC Barcelona defense and scored a goal! 1-0! The stadium erupted! It was on!

Barça reacted immediately. They played magnificently. The greats, Messi, Fábregas, Iniesta, Neymar, Xavi, Jordi Alba, Dani Alves, Mascherano all working in unison. They mesmerized the hostile crowd. They played the beautiful game. They managed 86% possession for the game, 29 shots on goal vs 5 by the home team… and they still lost.

For over 74 minutes the fans held their collective breath with each shot on goal, and then erupted with each save! An elderly man sat next to us with his Granada flag. After the 16th minute he started chewing on that flag, holding onto hope. At the final whistle his flag was soaked… and the fans and team simply exploded with joy!

Final score 1-0.

David had finally defeated Goliath! A reminder that any team can still lose if the other team’s hunger and heart is bigger that day. The celebration parties went far into the early morning and the newspaper headlines the next day all over Spain and many parts of the world read, “Barcelona suffer shock defeat to Granada!”

In this short video I share a few takeaways from the historic game, including what causes some successful people to be attracted to your team.

Legacy teams produce results, they win consistently and are expected to win. They create a winning culture. And because of this culture and history of winning, they attract some of the top players in the world, which allows them to continue winning. And this in turn creates a huge fan base.

In Network Marketing, the more you and your team help people achieve their goals, the more people will want to join your team! Success attracts success.

Start with one. Start by helping one person achieve a goal on your team. Then together help a second person achieve a goal. And then a third. And continue on. Before you know it, you’ll have the reputation of helping people achieve their goals.

Most prospects don’t really care about your personal success, what interests them most is learning about how many people you and your team have helped. It gives them confidence knowing if they join you, they could be the next success story on your team!

Create the winning culture. It will help you through the ups and downs of the business. Even the greatest teams like FC Barcelona experience setbacks. They can stumble. But with the winning culture in place, you can be rest assured more victories are on the way.

  1. Right now my David is every person acheiveing success in our company and i am Goliath. I am a bit lost as to how to be that David but am willing to be taught. Wishing i could have a personal mentor as i am a hands on learner. :)

  2. WORLD CUP 1990! Cameroon over Argentina! François Omam-Biyik’s goal and an unheralded team of journeymen defeated Diego Maradona’s world champions in Italy!

Argentina could not believe it, the crowd could not believe it, the world television audience probably did not believe it and even now it seems like something out of a fantasy. It is one thing to beat Argentina with a full side but to finish on the attack with NINE men is INCREDIBLE

  3. Gerry Armstrong’s GAOL for Northern Ireland v the hosts Spain in the 1982 World Cup Arconada… Still Billy Hamilton, he’s gone past Tendillo … Arconada… Armstrong! GOAL!!!!

  4. My favorite story and its a true one. The top money earner in my company overcame the giants of poverty, fear, wrong thinking and his environment and became a true leader and an icon of hope for the rest of the David’s preparing to overcome their giants
His story is teaching and encouraging me to kill the giants that are attempting to stop my success

  5. Bulgaria beats the defending champions Germany in the 1994 World Cup! Hristo Stoitchkov with the first goal, Lordan Letchkov with the winning goal!

Few gave Bulgaria much of a chance against a powerhouse team with players like Lothar Matthaeus and striker Jurgen Klinsmann, who won the World Cup four years earlier. Bulgaria came back from a goal down to win 2-1!

  6. USA over England; 1950 World Cup! Even the newspapers in the US got it wrong. They thought the wire mistyped the score, instead of 1-0 USA, they though it was probably 10-0 England… and that’s the score they printed the next day in the headlines, England 10 – USA 0! LOL

I believe that we will win! I believe that we will win!

  7. U.S. Olympic Hockey team beats Soviet Union

On this day in 1960, the underdog U.S. Olympic hockey team defeats the Soviet Union in the semifinals at the Winter Games in Squaw Valley, California. The next day, the U.S. beats Czechoslovakia to win its first-ever Olympic gold medal in hockey.

  8. Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson.

Poland and their Solidarity Movement against the USSR.

And every once in awhile you see it in college football when someone like Akron knocks off Michigan, or in Basketball when George Mason fought their way into the upper brackets of the tournament a few years ago.

  9. In Australia, we have the classic Aussie film “The Castle”, where a man takes on the government over extensions to the airport that would take his “castle” away.

If you can get past the swear words (it isn’t a Christian film of course) you can see that the story is a wonderful David and Goliath story.
